As far back as my career in skin care goes, there isn’t a single day that goes by that the word wrinkle doesn’t come out of my own or one of my clients’ mouths. Wrinkles or static lines on our face are one of the many signs that our skin is, in fact, aging. As with any of the signs of aging skin, there are many contributing factors to how fast we age. All of the brilliant scientists in the world continue to work feverishly to find the one reason. And all still seem to agree on a few major contributors: sun exposure, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, excessive stress, and of course, your genes. The great news is that because of all of those people working to discover a modern day, high-tech fountain of youth, we have come a very long way. All you have to do is look at a picture of your own mom or grandma when they were the age you are now, and look at how much better we look now. What that tells us is that the pendulum has shifted; age being more extrinsic versus intrinsic (one's genes). Or shall I say that we are so much more aware of how to control and slow extrinsic aging. When my career began about 14 years ago, it was thought that 80 percent of how we age was genetically controlled, leaving only 20 percent within our control. The number over all these years has shifted to 20 percent genetic, to 80 percent extrinsic. ISN’T THAT GREAT NEWS?
